The image at right shows Wave Hill, where President Theodore Roosevelt spent a couple of summers. Wave Hill is a horticultural enclave and Teddy Roosevelt was an American Conservationist. I imagine if alive today, Roosevelt would certainly being doing whatever he could to combat climate change.
Presidents Day is a federal holiday when all local, state and federal government offices are closed, which generally includes public schools - unless the district uses the holiday to make up a snow day, which is highly unlikely this year since there hasn't been any measureable snow.
Presidents Day is a time to reflect on the performance of our current presidents and legislators, to see how they stack up versus their historical peers. And in that reflection it's worth asking ourselves what we've done to contribute or detract from the national conversation.
Brief History of Presidents Day Holiday in NYC
A day commemorating Lincoln's birthday was first passed in Buffalo, New York in the early 1870's. Presidents Day originated as Washington's Birthday which was a holiday narrowly prescribed for federal government offices in Washington, D.C. in 1879. The holiday was dedicated to honoring the memory of the first American president, George Washington who was born on February 22, 1732.
In 1885 the holiday was expanded to include all federal government offices around the nation. In 1951 there was a push to create a Presidents Day holiday [vs a George Washington's birthday holiday] to include President Lincoln whose birthday is February 12, 1809 and was also celebrated by localities, but it didn't pass.
In 1971 the holiday was moved off of George Washington's birth date to being the third Monday in February. Thus while it never falls upon Washington's birthday 2/22, the official name of the holiday remains Washington's Birthday. But today, most folks refer to it as Presidents Day and to recognize the presidents who honored the U.S. Constitution and served the interests of the American people.

Dance, Theater & Music in the Bronx NYC - Presidents Day Weekend Things To Do
In addition to some of the public funded theaters at the CUNY colleges, there are a number of smaller, artsy independent theaters in the Bronx. Some have been operating in the Bronx for decade(s), while others are recently new.
Pregones Theater and ID Studio Theater - both are located in Mott Haven / Concourse neighborhoods and are examples of a organic local theater of the Bronx.
The Pregones Theater is located at 571 Walton Street in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx. This weekend 2/18/22, there's still time to view the films from the 21 Islands Short Film Fest before it ends this weekend [free / online]. See www.pregonesprtt.org for details.
In the photo to your right is the Pregones Theater in the Mott Haven / Concourse neighborhoods of the Bronx.
ID Studio Theater is located at 311 East 140th Street in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx. On February 9, 2022, they presented a live play of Shakespeare's A Mid Summer Nights Dream, so they're slowly moving past the pandemic. To stay abreast of their programming see - www.idstudiotheater.org or keep watching Bronx Buzz.
City Island also has a vibrant community theater, offering seasonal performances, so there's nothing doing over the Presidents Day Weekend. And there are also a couple of local theaters in the Wakefield neighborhood, which I'll inform you more about in the future.
Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park is closed. It's kind of a desolate place to visit on a cold winter day, which you can only get to by bicycle, foot or via car as the public buses only run during the summer season.
Lehman College for the Performing Arts is located along Goulden Avenue between Bedford Park Blvd West and 197th Street in the Bedford Park neighborhood. It's one of the Bronx top performance venues. While they aren't open for Presidents Day, likely because it's a national holiday, they are hosting a live performance of Ballet Folklorico de Mexico on Sunday at 4 pm [tickets $25 - $50]. For details see - https://www.lehmancenter.org/
Manhattan College, Hostos College, Bronx College and Fordham University all organize and sponsor events, but I suspect that like Lehman they don't do much over the Presidents Day Weekend.
