AUGUST iis the hot summer month, when folks go to the beaches and hang out in the parks, and do what they can to stay cool like swimming in the public park pools.
There is Ghana Fest, the celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop, and the St. Helena Summer Fair; as well as summer concerts, summer theater and outdoor movies in the parks.
The summer is well underway with food & music festivals and vacations.

Things To Do in the Bronx Weekends in August
- Sunday, July 30, 2023 beginning at 11 am the Bronx Dominican Parade at the Grand Concourse from 76th to 167th / 168th Streets. The main performance stage is at 176th Street on the Grand Concourse where there will be speeches and performances from 11 am to 5 pm. The parade starts at 1.40 pm and it all ends by 5 pm. - Saturday, August 5, 2023from 7 to 9 pm - SummerStage presents STONEBWOY | DJ BUKA in association with Ghanafest-NY. They describe what to expect as follows, " ... A celebration of Ghanaian culture and heritage, this family-friendly public installation showcases Ghanaian tradition, music, dance, art, food, and regalia. This year’s event—the 13th in New York City—is headlined by Stonebwoy, a Ghanaian pop singer named Artist of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards who has collaborated with the likes of Sean Paul, Keri Hilson, Trey Songz, and Burna Boy. The first Ghanaian artist to rack up 100 million streams on Audiomack, Stonebwoy is fresh off signing a record deal
with Def Jam and set to make waves in the States with his fusion of reggae, dancehall, and Afropop. DJ Buka is on the ones and twos...". FREE.

- Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 1 to 9.30 pm - Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop. Sets and performances by: DJ Kid Capri, Grandmaster Cas, Talib Kweli, Chuck D, KRS-One in the Morris Heights neighborhood of the Bronx. Organized by. It's All Black Music with support from NYC City Hall. Location. 1520 Sedgewick [a block north of the Washington Bridge / Cross Bronx Expressway] in the Morris Heights neighborhood of the Bronx. FREE.
- Parkchester _ Thursday, August 17 - Sunday, August 27, 2023, Weekdays opens at 6 pm and Weekends [Fri / Sat / Sun] opens at 6 pm - all nights closing around 10 pm - St Helena Summer Fair [formerly Parish Carnival]. Note that times may vary on the weekend. It's an old fashioned carnival with rides, games, entertainment, shopping, food, beverages [no alcohol], contests and prizes. At the Church of St. Helena in the Parking Lot at 1315 Olmsted in Parchester, near Castle Hill in the Bronx. On August 25th they run an all day special on rides with an All you can ride wrist band for $30. Street fairs in Westchester Square neighborhood of the Bronx.
The photo at left was taken at the Hip Hop 50th Celebration at its home at 1520 Sedgewick Avenue, along the Harlem River in the Bronx. There was good attendance at the block party, which entailed journeying through numerous flights of steps in the Heights, but well worth it.

This Bronx Arts Group sponsors and organizes various exhibits & performances in the Bronx
The Bronx Council on the Arts is located at 2700 Tremont Avenue in the Westchester Square neighborhood of the Bronx, but I believe the building may still be undergoing renovations.

Bronx Universal Hip Hop Museum

The Universal Hip Hop Museum is to be located somewhere in the Bronx. The Bronx is the birthplace of Hip Hop in 1973 when D.J. Kool first did a performance in the 1500 block of Sedgewick Avenue in the Morris Heights neighborhood of the Bronx. A section of Sedgewick Avenue was rechristened Hip Hop Boulevard this year.
At present they are located in the Bronx Terminal Market at 610 Exterior Street in the Concourse neighborhood of the Bronx, just west of Mott Haven.

The Point CDC
This Bronx Arts Group / Community Center sponsors and / or organizes various types of community arts & performance projects
The Point is located at 940 Garrison Avenue in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx.

Bronx Parks - The High Bridge
Historical Site of 19th Century Water Aqueduct
The High Bridge is located along University Avenue near West 170th Street in the Highbridge neighborhood of the Bronx. The High Bridge is located across from Highbridge Park in Manhattan and crosses the Harlem River. It was once an aqueduct that transported Manhattan drinking water and it's now an historic park landmark site.

The Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course is located at Van Cortlandt Park South & Broadway is closest to most of the facilities and just off the #1 subway line. They are open most of the year - roughly sunrise to sunset - weather permitting.

Bronx Parks - Pelham Bay Park & Split Rock Golf Course

Pelham Bay Park is the largest park in New York City. It is home to the Pelham Bay Park and Split Rock Golf course, Orchard Beach and the Barstow Pell Mansion. The Split Rock Golf Course is city owned and open nearly year round during the day.
